A curated subset of the Hipparcos bright-star catalog — every naked-eye star (magnitude ≤ 6.0). Each carries right ascension, declination, and apparent magnitude, driving both the star's position and its rendered size.
You give us a place and a local time. We convert to a UTC instant and compute alt/az for every catalog star, plus ephemerides for the Moon and naked-eye planets. Only what's actually above the horizon is drawn.
Lambert azimuthal equal-area projection of the visible hemisphere onto a unit disc. Zenith at the center, horizon at the edge — the standard convention for a sky map you'd hold above your head.
